The scholarship program has enabled several outstanding candidates to join the blended course and to broaden and boost their careers. This year, 50% scholarships will again be awarded to selected candidates. In the final part of the course program, the on-campus extended course, participants write a clinical trial proposal based on their own idea of a novel medical intervention. ‘Best Clinical Trial Proposal Challenge’ accepts proposals for a novel clinical trial with a registered drug for a chance to win the PJ nomination letter and the €500.000 ZonMw grant (more information about eligibility). Last year, dr. Marieke Pierik from MUMC+ won the grant for her study 'Control Crohn Safe with episodic adalimumab as first line treatment trial (CoCros study)’.

The blended course Clinical Development discusses the Question Based Clinical Development (QBCD) approach and how it is applied to determine the optimal and most cost-efficient developmental plan for a novel medical intervention for various types of interventions (medicines, medical devices and medical nutritional products).

The blended course consists of 3 parts: online (also stand-alone) + on-campus + on-campus extended. The online course introduces the QBCD concept and includes teaching cases from industry and academia. During the on-campus course, several in depth teaching cases are discussed and experts from prominent life sciences companies share their experiences and reveal the choices that were made during the real development. Finally, during the on-campus extended course, expert mentors guide participants to develop a ready-to-submit clinical trial protocol based on their own idea for a medical intervention or clinical trial.
