The tasks of the CCMO
Approximately two-thirds of all research files in the Netherlands are reviewed by an accredited MREC in one of the seven Dutch university medical centers. Relatively few (less than 5%) of research files are not reviewed by an accredited MREC, but are reviewed by the CCMO.
For example, the CCMO reviews proposals for studies involving Advanced Therapy Medicinal Products (ATMP
) and non-therapeutic research with minors and incapacitated subjects. In addition to serving as a review committee and the Competent Authority, the CCMO has several other tasks as defined by Dutch law.
For example, the CCMO serves as the Appeals Body (Dutch: Beroepsinstantie) and as the Oversight Body (Dutch: Toezichtsorgaan). An overview of the various tasks performed by the CCMO is provided in our Infographic “CCMO tasks” (see below).
You can select a specific tasks just by clicking on that segment. Click on the grey center circle to return to the previous level . More details regarding some of these tasks will be provided in the course themes that will be developed later.
